Tuesday , April 13The Business of Managing a Nationally Ranked Business School Larry E. Penley, Dean of the ASU Main College of Business, will address the business of business education in a large, rapidly growing urban center. He will discuss the national phenomenon of "privatization of public education" and the challenges of rapid growth in demand for all forms of business education in the Valley. Mission priorities in multi-campus system are matters of extensive dialogue that help form the university's vision for the next decade and beyond. The ASU College of Business is ever mindful of its responsibilities to its students and society. Over the last decade, under Dean Penley's leadership, the College has aggressively pursued curriculum innovation culminating in many accolades for the College and national rankings for several of its programs. The day MBA program at ASU Main, for example, is currently ranked 13th among public institutions. Dean Penley was raised in Kingsport, Tennessee. His undergraduate degree was earned at Wake Forest; his doctorate is from the University of Georgia. Dean Penley previously taught in Mexico, Venezuela and at the University of Texas at San Antonio. He previously served as Chairman of the ASU Management Department and is President-elect of the American Assembly of Collegiate Schools of Business. Student Recognition Also attending the April meeting will be faculty and student representatives from the state's four senior universities: Arizona State University Main, Arizona State University West, Northern Arizona University and University of Arizona. The chapter will recognize the outstanding student from each institution's accountancy program with a plaque and a check for $500. Introductions will be made and the students will tell us their plans for the future. __________________________________

There are many opportunities to serve your local Chapter of FEI — either by joining a committee that interests you, or what we call "one shot" activities. The following summary will tell you a bit about several committees, any of which would be delighted to have your help and input. The "one shot" activities are things that the committees need help with just occasionally — one time, not every month and not a long-term commitment. Please take a few minutes to review the information and make a commitment to work with FEI to make it a better organization for all of us. Whether you can commit to meeting with a committee or just do what needs to be accomplished for a special project, we definitely need your participation. If you talk to those who have, you'll learn that it is one of the best networking activities you can do. It can lead to some strong connections that will be there for you when you need the resource. Academic Relations This committee is responsible for developing methods of getting students interested in financial management careers; encouraging members to serve on educational Curricula Committees, urging chapters to establish a good rapport with the faculty of schools, developing recognition and awards programs for students; and preparing an academic relations program for National and Regional. Member Career Services This committee is responsible for assisting members in transition to reduce their job search time. National FEI provides guidance, confidential referrals, job postings, referral lists, and resource materials. Membership This committee is responsible for preparing a Member Development program; stimulating the interest of eligible candidates for FEI membership by personal contact, descriptive literature, and following up; ensuring that progress is made toward the Chapter's annual goals; and coordinating contacts with prospects. Membership is concerned with retention and involvement of members. Programs This committee is responsible for arranging for speakers, topics, and types of meetings held each year; arranging for the site and booking the meeting dates; securing Continuing Professional Education (CPE) credits for meetings and technical sessions; coordinating joint programs with other related organizations. We would appreciate your help in any of these areas — a lot or a little. Please let us know the contribution we can count on you to make to help the Arizona Chapter be the best professional resource possible for all of us. |
